The University Leadership Development Programme (ULDP) remains to this day, an experience that I hold dear to my heart. The learning curve is exceedingly steep, the food is great and most of all the people you meet are driven, kind and inspiring. In a short span of two weeks I learnt so much, from professional etiquette to deciphering business case studies. If you are hesitating to apply because of a lack of technical knowledge, I can empathise as I came from a legal education. The beauty of ULDP is that the challenges are designed taking into account the needs and strengths of students from a plethora of academic disciplines. It was a wonderful training ground for me to learn to appreciate my diversity and leverage on my strengths and even the weaknesses. Take the leap and challenge yourself! After all, comfort is the greatest enemy of progress. ULDP empowered me with an understanding that a persistence to grow and learn defines my character so much more than what I have learnt within the confines of academia. I am a huge advocate for ULDP because I felt like it was such a safe space to grow- there is a continuous and thoughtfully curated support system in place with mentors to guide and evaluate personal performance, as well as a feedback system ensures your potential for growth. There is really a lot of love and support you will receive from the mentors, organizing committee and the wonderful teams you will be a part of. I emphasize a lot on the love and support and opportunity for growth, because receiving these opportunities allowed me to explore my capabilities and extract the best version of myself. Give as much as you should like to receive in the programme, open yourself up to the people in your team, trust and uplift them the way you wish to be trusted and uplifted- the two weeks in ULDP will leave you understanding that there is truly no greater joy than growing together.
